Sincerely,A very interesting essay from the journal of Evolutionary Psychology on sperm competition and its role in shaping the human penis, (size, length, width, forceful ejaculation), evolutionary strategies for successful fertilization i.e. semen displacement and coagulation. On sexual intercourse and evolutionary benefits of deep penis thrusting, function of the foreskin and effects of circumcision, premature ejaculation, female reproductive strategies i.e. copulation with multiple partners, human sexual behaviour and wife rape (males having sex with their partner if suspecting them of infidelity).

An essay on male sexuality which describes the causes and signs of sexual arousal (complex interaction of physical and phychological) followed by information on erections and male orgasm / ejaculation.
From the essay: 'As the point of orgasm approaches, pre-ejaculate production
will normally stop, and the hole in the tip of the penis becomes slit-like.
The testicles become hard and are drawn up near the body in preparation.
Breathing becomes heavier, and there may be involuntary contractions of
major muscles (convulsions) throughout the body.
Finally, the psychological and physical pressure to ejaculate is released
in a series of muscular contractions, usually about 8 major contractions
spaced a second or so apart, followed perhaps by several smaller ones that
can last 45 seconds or so. There is a wide variation in semen production,
but about 60 percent on average, comes from glands called the seminal vesicles,
whereas 38 % comes from the prostate, with the remainder from glands such
as the Cowper's.

Obviously, semen contains spermatozoa, but sperm accounts for only a small
percentage of spunk. Cum is 90% seminal fluid, which is composed of dozens
of chemical components. The base of seminal fluid is primarily fructose
(sugar) and proteins, with many other trace minerals and substances.
Healthy semen (from a well nourished, disease free male) may in fact be
not only safe to eat, but actually good for you. Semen is a source of highly
concentrated, high-quality protein amd also contains high concentrations
of some minerals, such as zinc, and trace amounts of calcium and magnesium.

A recent study found that women who gave their men oral sex, and swallowed, had a lower risk of preeclampsia, the dangerously high blood pressure that sometimes accompanies pregnancy.
'The present study shows that oral sex and swallowing sperm is correlated with a diminished occurrence of preeclampsia,' said the Dutch authors.
A study of college students at the State University of New York in Albany suggests that semen acts as an antidepressant. Females in the study who were having sex without condoms had fewer signs of depression than women who used condoms or abstained from sex.
'These data are consistent with the possibility that semen may antagonize depressive symptoms and evidence which shows that the vagina absorbs a number of components of semen that can be detected in the bloodstream within a few hours of administration.'

Although masturbation is the standard method for the collection of a sperm sample, both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, other approaches have been described and assessed. Production of semen using specially designed condoms (Silastic seminal fluid collection device - SCD) has been shown to result in samples with better laboratory characteristics than samples obtained after masturbation or coitus interruptus.

Six semen samples were collected from each of 38 infertile men via masturbation
and sexual intercourse using a semen collection device (SCD).
The volume of seminal plasma, total sperm count, sperm motility, and percentage
of normal spermatozoa were significantly higher in samples collected at
intercourse than masturbation. In addition, the markers of the secretory
function of the prostate and the outcome of sperm function tests were also
significantly higher.

any human emotion, no matter how far it may be removed from the sphere of
sex, and you are sure to discover somewhere the primal impulse, to which
life owes its perpetuation. ... The primitive stages can always be re-established;
the primitive mind is, in the fullest meaning of the word, imperishable.
... Mans most disagreeable habits and idiosyncrasies, his deceit, his cowardice,
his lack of reverence, are engendered by his incomplete adjustment to a
complicated civilisation. It is the result of the conflict between our instincts
and our culture. (Sigmund Freud)
