With so much free content on the Internet, you have to wonder where the adult industry is headed. There still seems to be a market for selling DVD's, but with faster broadband connection speeds, downloading full length videos will very soon by common place (some parts of the world it already is).
Websites such as Porno Tube began their online lives as free as a bird. Once the brand name was recognised, notoriety assured and traffic through the roof - pay resources were introduced. Well they have to pay for bandwidth somehow (and market economics is quick to cash in on something popular!). There has been a plethora of free video sites that have have come online (in the hope of becoming the new You Tube) enjoyed moderate success only to crash and burn. Why? Competition is cut throat and to make money from a free site is a masterful art (even just enough to keep the site running). Many large successful websites, such as Adult Friend Finder are free to join then offer incentives to become paid members (e.g. to contact other people you would like to date).
To be a free site doesn't necessarily mean that quality is not as good. For example, our website is free (although we have started to experiment with affiliate advertising to help pay for our internet costs). We could offer a paid members section of our website, but it goes against our general philosophical principles - that true knowledge should be free and accessible to adults (not breaking laws protecting minors). True knowledge is empowering and gives us the ability to make informed decisions.
Free amateur pornography opens up new possibilities within the genre. If people are uploading videos of themselves which depict consensual, healthy, positive sex - is this not a more moral version of the much maligned porn industry? Amateur porn offers women much broader scope to develop and create their own true stories and characters free from stereotypes. Pornography that is arousing for women and shows their real orgasms rather than just the mans - what a revolutionary concept! By taking power and control away from the adult industry and placing it with the artist, pornography can be empowering to women and not necessarily demeaning.

Although sex is wonderful, and many of us consume pornography, it is important to think about the industry, people and morality behind it.
