Definition of Hentai - Japanese & English
Hentai is a Sino-Japanese compound term widely used in
modern Japanese to designate a person, action or state that is considered
queer or perverse, particularly in a sexual
sense.
Apart from this general use of the term hentai, it can also be used to designate
a specific genre of Japanese manga comics and adult animation / cartoons
that features extreme or perverse sexual (XXX pornographic) content and
it is in this sense that hentai has become well-known among western fans
of Japanese popular culture.

Homosexual Hentai: Gay Men and Lesbian Women
There
are two main categories of hentai: works that feature mainly heterosexual
interactions (often abbreviated 'het' by its readers), and those that feature
mainly homosexual interactions. This second group can be further split into
yaoi (homosexual male pairings) and yuri
(lesbian pairings also known as 'slash').
Yaoi commonly features males of ambiguous gender in both physical appearance and mannerisms. These males are called 'bishonen', which literally means 'pretty boy'. Yaoi also exists outside of the hentai genre, since it is an ambiguous term that is applied to any form of anime that includes male homosexuality. However, it is different from shonen-ai (literally, 'boy-love'), in which two males simply express romantic feelings for each other and never actually have sexual relations.
Yuri is very similar to yaoi, except that the focus is on homosexual female interactions, and the lesbian females in a typical yuri illustration or animation tend to be far less realistic than the males in yaoi. The females in yuri are known as 'bishojo' which, predictably, translates as 'pretty girl'. Shojo-ai ('girl love') is the female equivalent of shonen-ai.

Yuri can be used to describe any anime or manga series (or other thing, i.e., fan fiction, film, etc.) that shows intense emotional connection, romantic love or physical desire between women. Yuri is not a genre confined by the gender or age of the audience, but by the 'perception' of the audience. We can, if we want to, differentiate between shounen yuri - written by men for a primarily male audience; shoujo yuri - written by women for a primarily female audience and; what we at Yuricon like to think of as "pure" yuri - written by lesbians for a lesbian audience...but it's still all yuri.
In short, yuri is any story with women in love (or lust) with other women.

'Yuri' Lesbian Hentai
The
word yuri literally means 'lily', and is (like many flower names) a relatively
common Japanese feminine name.
Many fans enjoy yuri for its skewing of the classic gender roles in anime, which are often quite stereotyped in nature and sometimes have a female character take a slightly more 'submissive' role if a significant other is introduced or appears. Conversely, yuri content is often criticized as never going anywhere, with the majority of the more dramatic stories ending tragically (even by comparison with the melodrama of romance in manga in general).
Many archetypical stories exist, such as the schoolyard not-quite-romances between sempai and kouhai (senior and junior), where the former is an older looking, more sophisticated woman and the latter is her younger, more awkward admirer. This is famously depicted in Marimite, which has a large yuri fandom. In other stories, some characters have bishonen characteristics and are considered handsome rather than beautiful. Lady Oscar from The Rose of Versailles and Rei Asaka from Oniisama are famous examples, though the most famous is Haruka Tenoh from Sailor Moon.

English letters form a backronym of the Japanese phrase (yama nashi, ochi
nashi, imi nashi), often translated into English as, 'no climax,
no punch line, no meaning,' or as the catchphrase, 'No peak, no
point, no problem.' It has also been humorously interpreted as 'Yamete!
Oshiri ga itai!' or 'Stop! My butt hurts!' in English.

culture: restrained, physically powerful, and protective. The seme usually
has a stronger chin, shorter hair, and a more masculine demeanor than the
uke.
The uke is usually more androgynous or effeminate in appearance and demeanor
and is often smaller and sometimes unrealistically girlish in behavior.
The uke generally falls in love before the seme does.
Though these stereotypes are common, not all works adhere to them. The height rule, the implication that greater height confers greater power, is also sometimes broken.
