Sincerely,From the website: 'Rape is forced, non-consenting sexual activity. This includes date rape where the force, even it not violent, is still employed. In 1985 there was a total of 87,340 rapes in the United States (Thio 1988:1135). The crime of rape, however, is notoriously underreported.
A popular theory is that rape is not really a crime of sex but a crime of violence. The problem with this is that it leaves out the element of sex. If rape is really a matter of violence and the desire to dominate then the obvious question is why don't men rape other men more often. The fact is that rape is best described as a paraphilia and this involves both violence and sex, or rather violent sex.
Most men do not have a rape paraphilia and therefore would not enjoy violent sex. And even if they had a desire to rape, this does not mean that they would actually commit rape. They would also have to have a disturbance in their control system. Some men might engage in rape fantasy, but this is different from a paraphilia. A rape fantasy involves occasional imaginings rather than being central to orgasmic world of the paraphilia.
An especially damaging piece of moralist misunderstanding is the traditional blame placed on the rape victim herself. Many people still believe that raped women "asked for it" or did not exercise enough caution. Rape until the 1970s thrived on prudery, misunderstanding, and silence.
Available studies suggest most emphatically that men who rape are marked off by significant and striking differences. Most studies have found that convicted rapists exhibiting unusually poor social skills in interacting with members of the opposite sex (Ellis 1989:53).'

Collection of articles on date rape, different sexual situations, consent, sexual assault trials, restraining orders, violence (and women's acceptance of it), protection strategies for schools and students, self defence and empowerment, alcohol and the date rape drug Rohypnol, resources for survivors, risk factors, rights, personal advice & support.
From the website: 'Sexual assault is the polite name for this crime; rape is the common name, and criminal sexual conduct is how the law describes it. No matter what you call it, rape is defined as having sex with someone without their consent. And it's a felony. The existence of a current or prior social or sexual relationship does not automatically translate to consent. Consent is not implied if there is a relationship. And a person who is incapacitated (drunk, sick, on drugs, unconscious) can not give consent. And without consent, any sexual act is rape. Consent is an action, not the lack of response. Consent is an active response; it is not silence.'

* 86% of rapists studied admitted regular use of pornography. 57% admitted
imitating pornographic scenes in the commission of sex crimes. (Marshall,
1985)
* Rapists are 15 times more likely as non-offenders to have had exposure
to hard-core pornography during childhood, between the ages of 6 and 10,
and report an earlier age of "peak experience" with pornography.
(Goldstein, Kant and Hartman, 1973)
* In a national poll of mental health professionals, 254 psychotherapists
reported in their clinical practices cases in which pornography was found
to be an instigator or contributor to a sex crime, personality disturbance,
or antisocial act. (Lipkin & Carnes, 1970)

A very interesting essay from the journal of Evolutionary Psychology on sperm competition and evolutionary strategies for successful fertilization.
'On the basis of retrospective reports from both males and females, Gallup et al. (2003) found that human males often modify the use of their penis under conditions in which their long-term female partner may have been unfaithful. Using anonymous surveys of sexually active college students, it was determined that when males accused their partner of cheating, or when the couple had been separated for a period of time, many males thrust deeper, quicker, and more vigorously than during a typical sexual encounter. ... Goetz and Shackelford have uncovered preliminary evidence that a substantial proportion of wife rapes involve husbands who suspect their wives had been unfaithful.'

any human emotion, no matter how far it may be removed from the sphere of
sex, and you are sure to discover somewhere the primal impulse, to which
life owes its perpetuation. ... The primitive stages can always be re-established;
the primitive mind is, in the fullest meaning of the word, imperishable.
... Mans most disagreeable habits and idiosyncrasies, his deceit, his cowardice,
his lack of reverence, are engendered by his incomplete adjustment to a
complicated civilisation. It is the result of the conflict between our instincts
and our culture. (Sigmund Freud)
