'There
is hardly another area in human biology or in sociology in which the scientist
has had to fight for his right to do research, as he has when he has attempted
to acquire a scientific understanding of human sexual behavior.' (Alfred
Kinsey, from papers found after his death)

The Australian Study of Health and Relationships surveyed the sexual health
behaviours of Australians. The sample consisted of 10,000 men and 9,000
women.
The study found the age of first sexual intercourse has been declining for
the last fifty years, the age of getting married is rising, sexually transmissible
infections appear relatively common, people who identify as gay, lesbian
or bisexual is small, but those reporting a homosexual experience is considerable
greater.

The AARP study conducted in 2004 surveyed a nationally representative group
of adults ages 45 and older to measure attitudes and other factors affecting
their sexuality and quality of life.
For more than half of the respondents, sexual activity is a critical part
of a good relationship and an important factor affecting their quality of
life. A vast majority of mid-life to older adults shows a positive attitude
toward sex. The proportion of men who've tried potency enhancing medicines,
hormones, or other treatments has doubled since 1999.

Internet users are doing far fewer searches for sex and pornography and more for e-commerce and business than they were seven years ago, University of Pittsburgh and Penn State researchers say in a new book.
"Twenty percent of all searching was sex-related back in 1997; now it's about 5 percent," said Amanda Spink, the University of Pittsburgh professor who co-authored Web Search: Public Searching of the Web with Penn State professor Bernard J. Jansen.
"It's a little bit more in Europe, 8 to 10 percent, but in comparison to everything else, it's a very small percent," Spink said. "People are using (the web) more as an everyday tool rather than as just an entertainment medium."
Spink said her studies show queries for e-business or commerce increased by 86 percent in the past seven years.

Comments: What the researchers have failed to recognise is that over time people have found websites on human sexuality or pornography that they like. Therefore while people are still going to sex / porn sites (using their bookmarks) the search results for sex terms are lower over time.

Search Study: Sex Is Out, Consuming Is In

This article provides an overview of recent research conducted from 1997 to 2003 that explored how people search the Web.
The researchers examined the topics of Web searches; how users search the Web using terms in queries during search sessions; and the diverse types of searches, including medical, sex, e-commerce, multimedia, information. Key findings include changes in search topics since 1997, including a shift from entertainment to e-commerce queries. Further findings show little change in many aspects of Web searching from 1997-2003, including query and search session length.

any human emotion, no matter how far it may be removed from the sphere of
sex, and you are sure to discover somewhere the primal impulse, to which
life owes its perpetuation. ... The primitive stages can always be re-established;
the primitive mind is, in the fullest meaning of the word, imperishable.
... Mans most disagreeable habits and idiosyncrasies, his deceit, his cowardice,
his lack of reverence, are engendered by his incomplete adjustment to a
complicated civilisation. It is the result of the conflict between our instincts
and our culture. (Sigmund Freud)
