From the website: 'In the U.S., an estimated 34% of all men ages 40 to 70 - about 20 million men - suffer from some significant level of erectile dysfunction. Most of them, about 80%, never seek treatment.
Percentage of men who suffer at least one side effect while using Viagra:
48%
Percentage of men who stop using Viagra because of side effects: 1%
Decline in erectile function for every decade increase in age: 12%
Decline in erectile function for every 20 pounds of weight gain: 3%
... As Viagra moves into the bloodstream, it starts to block an enzyme called PDE-5. Blocking the enzyme eventually increases blood flow to areas where PDE-5 is most heavily concentrated - the penis, nose and skin. Diminished blood flow to the penis is the cause of most erectile dysfunction problems.

A very interesting article written by two sexologists (Gary Schubach and Shama) who experimented with Viagra. Recommended reading for anyone thinking about taking Viagra.
Schubach and Shama are concerned that the emotional or psychological aspects of erectile dysfunction (stress, anxiety, disconnection from partner, lack of communication) are not being addressed by doctors prescribing Viagra (which temporarily helps the physical ailment - provides an 'erection on demand'). So sexual intercourse may be better in the short term, but the emotional cause of the problem is likely to resurface within the relationship. This is at odds with the drug company Pfizer who say that 'due to such new developments as antidepressants, increased rates of prostate cancer, and other medical conditions, as many as 80% of male erectile problems are now primarily physiologically based, not psychologically based.'
From the website: 'Impotence is about more than a lack of an erection. Impotence literally is a sense of powerlessness. We have often found that feeling of powerlessness comes from apprehension from a deep-seated knowing that most men haven't been properly educated or trained in sexual expression so that their lovemaking can truly show love and caring for their partners and themselves. Many of our clients have admitted that they are apprehensive because, at core, they don't feel competent and, in many cases, they're not. Knowledge is power. The knowledge of how to have our sexuality be satisfying to ourselves and our partners can make us more potent than any pill or drug.'

Scientists have concluded that women achieve most sexual satisfaction through the stimulation of their brain and not any other organ. After eight years of tests involving 3,000 women, Pfizer, the company behind Viagra, the little blue pill that has transformed men's sex lives, has abandoned efforts to prove that the drug works for females too.
Its research concluded that men and women have a fundamentally different relationship between arousal and desire. A women's arousal is triggered by a network of emotional, intellectual and relationship-based factors rather than the simple physical response required by a man, it says. The company's sex research team admitted that they had concluded the brain is the crucial sexual organ in a woman.
Early trials, where women were dosed with Viagra while watching erotic videos, the drug appeared to work, but further studies found that even though Viagra induced a greater pelvic blood flow, the women did not feel substantially more aroused. Pfizer has not given up all hope of finding an alternative to Viagra for women, and are now concentrating on finding drugs that affect a woman's brain chemistry.

The AARP study conducted in 2004 surveyed a nationally representative group
of adults ages 45 and older to measure attitudes and other factors affecting
their sexuality and quality of life.
For more than half of the respondents, sexual activity is a critical part
of a good relationship and an important factor affecting their quality of
life. A vast majority of mid-life to older adults shows a positive attitude
toward sex. The proportion of men who've tried potency enhancing medicines,
hormones, or other treatments has doubled since 1999.

any human emotion, no matter how far it may be removed from the sphere of
sex, and you are sure to discover somewhere the primal impulse, to which
life owes its perpetuation. ... The primitive stages can always be re-established;
the primitive mind is, in the fullest meaning of the word, imperishable.
... Mans most disagreeable habits and idiosyncrasies, his deceit, his cowardice,
his lack of reverence, are engendered by his incomplete adjustment to a
complicated civilisation. It is the result of the conflict between our instincts
and our culture. (Sigmund Freud)
